Hayley will explore practical ways parents, caregivers, and school communities can engage in anti-racism action in meaningful and accessible ways.

Drawing from her frontline experience supporting newcomer families, she will share insights into the systemic and everyday barriers immigrant and refugee families face, and how these challenges show up in schools and the broader community. Through a diversity-informed lens, participants will build a deeper understanding of equity, belonging, and cultural transition, and leave with practical strategies to help create more inclusive, responsive, and welcoming school environments.

About Hayley:

Hayley Tarrant is a Settlement Worker in Schools with Chilliwack Community Services, where she supports newcomer children and families in navigating the education system and settling into life in Canada. She brings over nine years of frontline and social services experience, including supporting asylum seekers at the U.S.–Mexico border in El Paso, TX, and leading community-based response efforts at the onset of the war in Ukraine while living in Poland. Since 2023, Hayley has been supporting newcomer families in Chilliwack as they integrate into local schools and the broader community.

Across these contexts, her work has focused on developing community-based supports, coordinating cross-sector services, and advocating for equitable, low-barrier access for refugee and immigrant families. She has a strong commitment to inclusion, belonging, and addressing systemic barriers within institutions that have not historically reflected the realities of diverse communities.

Hayley is the proud mother of three; her eldest attends Chilliwack Middle School, and her two younger children attend Little Mountain Elementary School.
