How does DPAC Advocate?

The Chilliwack District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) works to ensure parents have a strong, informed voice as partners in SD33. We are guided by our membership, listen to families, collaborate with schools and other partners, and provide resources and support to empower parents and strengthen the public education system.

Our Current Focuses

  • Anti-Bullying/Anti-Racism

Chilliwack students are entitled to safe, respectful, and inclusive school environments. Following our Anti-Bullying/Anti-Racism Advocacy Letter to the district last year, we are continuing to meet with district leaders to push for meaningful action. Our priorities include a comprehensive action plan to address bullying and racism, a standard district-wide Code of Conduct with clear consequences, education plans for students, parents, and teachers, and the integration of restorative justice training and practices across all schools.

  • EA Support

Chilliwack DPAC is actively advocating for better training and increased Educational Assistant (EA) support to better meet the needs of students. We are engaging with the District to address gaps in EA services, collaborating with CUPE to develop effective solutions, and preparing to present a resolution to the BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (BCCPAC) to strengthen advocacy efforts around EA support and access to extra-curricular activities.

  • The Budget

Chilliwack DPAC is working with the District to find solutions to ongoing budget shortfalls, ensuring that financial decisions prioritize student learning, equity, and essential supports. Our goal is to promote transparency, explore creative funding strategies, and advocate for spending that best serves the needs of all students and families in SD33.

  • Standard Sexual Health Curriculum

Chilliwack DPAC is addressing gaps in sexual health education across the district by advocating for a consistent, comprehensive curriculum from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Our aim is to ensure all students receive age-appropriate, accurate, and inclusive sexual health learning that supports their well-being, safety, and informed decision-making.

This year, DPAC is building its own strength and capacity so we can better serve parents and students.

We’ve already launched this brand-new website!

Next up we’re creating a clear Operating Norms & Policy Manual for our internal structure, refreshing our logo, and offering specific advocacy education to empower parents to speak up with confidence for their children.
